about

Be Heard is the debut release from Toronto-based rock and roll troubadours, Rebel Rebel. The five-song, six-track EP, produced and engineered at Revolution Recording by the band's own Tye Hunt Fitzgerald, is not officially a concept album, but songwriter Travis Caine dives in to themes of belonging and locale with an honest disregard for interruption. From the opening track the group establishes Be Heard as a hard-hitting, impactful showcase, capturing the intensity of the bands notoriously loud live show, as well as the expansive and experimental nature of their sound.

That sound is defined by the feverish guitar tones of Caine (rhythm) and Bryan Wyshnicki (lead), while held together by the pounding drums of Paul Cope. Keeping the pulse and providing the rhythmic blood flow is Tye Hunt Fitzgerald (bass) and Kara Gauthier (keys), who maintains a constant hum with low-end organ and provides high-end highlights with piano and synth. The bands songs are lead by Caine's gritty, yet melodic vocals, which are sung with unfaltering conviction, and harmonized by Gauthier/Wyshnicki, who help create catchy sing-along anthems in all the right places.

True to its name, Be Heard broadcasts the explosive and diverse nature of Rebel Rebel, demanding attention and roping its audience in with a deep, multiple-listen experience. Whether dealing with a sense of loneliness or that search for belonging; the surrender of ones dreams or the rebellion against ones fate, Rebel Rebel creates a unity in their music that is ultimately defined as rock 'n' roll.

Track Name: I Know (What You Mean)
How does it feel, to know that you are on your own?
Back to the wall against the town that you came from
I know it's real
That aching in your guts for more

I heard your name sailing through the streets of the city
Calling it out above the waves of little town blues
It's hard to reveal that longing in your heart
I know

What you mean is I'm getting in tune
What you mean is you're in my head
What you mean is a little less of the real thing
I know what you mean

Shaking it all, down at Central Station
Tonight's the night, just like Mr. Young said
Into the fire with all you want to leave behind
I know

What you mean is I'm getting in tune
What you mean is you're in my head
What you mean is a little less of the real thing
I know what you mean
Track Name: Upon the Setting Sun
Bury it deep, my friend
Slice the wrist of the hand that feeds
It's killing me, killing you
Bury it deep, my friend
We've travelled the road, taken the bends
We kept it alive as long as we can

Bury it deep, my friend
This isn't the time to feign and ignore
I'm on to you, you're on to me
Bury it deep, my friend
Those bridges are burned
we messed up one too many times, ain't that the truth
Bury it deep, my friend
I'm sorry to say this might be the end
Our final days, our last stand

Look what we've become
Look what we've become
Bury the hatchet for all that we've done wrong
Look what we've become
Look what we've become
Bury the hatchet upon the setting sun

Bury it deep, my friend
Hack away at the pride that falls over you
Over me
Bury it deep, my friend
Truth be known, I can't stand to pretend
Another day to contend
Bury it deep, my friend
The sun will set on our time
No matter how hard we try to defend

Look what we've become
Look what we've become
Bury the hatchet for all that we've done wrong
Look what we've become
Look what we've become
Bury the hatchet upon the setting sun
Track Name: We'll Find Movement
Brothers and sisters, gather around
Let me feel the fire burning you up from the inside out
It's starting to spread

Call on your lovers, their passion won't end
Feel the drip of their sweat, their love will demand
A new start to a brand new day

They say, "Keep it together, keep it all cool."
I say, "Keep that desire and fuck all their rules."

And we find out where we stand...

Feel the fire
Feel the fire
Feel the fire
It's burning a hole

And we find out where we stand...
Track Name: Where Do We Go From Here
Stay calm, carry on, there's nothing left here to see
Just a little bit of something that's dead and gone
We're cleaning up this scene
Who will you believe, them or me?

Don't panic, it's all okay, we'll even out it seems
Just a couple of doses and a few more pills
Will put you on the right team
Who will you believe, them or me?
Who will you believe, them or me?

Punch in and punching out, burn the midnight oil 'till 3
Let the smoke in your lungs ease all your worries
It's your father on repeat
Who will you believe, them or me?
Who will you believe, them or me?

Who will you believe, them or me?
Track Name: Kingston
Kingston swallow me, take the city out of me
And find a better man to lead this revolution
Scarred and untamed, I will change my name
To keep my bones clean, wash the dirt out of them

Knock me to the street.
Help me get back to my feet again.

Kingston swallow me, spit me out and watch me bleed
I’m begging for my life - I need your release
Kingston hold me close, I’ve been housing ghosts
And I need to lick my wounds. Won’t you lick them too?

I’ve been beaten, I’ve been bruised, but I do it all again
If I had the choice to let it go
So let me be the one to a place where I belong
Kingston I am your forgotten son

I’m the voice of the voiceless calling out
With vigor I abstain from straining out my words again
Am I coming through? Hear me out, sing the blues!
We’ve waited far to long, now we’re howling at the moon

I’ve been beaten, I’ve been bruised, but I do it all again
If I had the choice to let it go
So let me be the one to a place where I belong
Kingston I am your forgotten son
